Fabulous surprise and something on V neck

I received a fabulous surprise last month.

Then another one in September ;)

Its a new service which sells like hot cake in town, whereby ladies (maybe man too) pays RM35 per month and receive a box of surprise right at your doorsteps every month. The surprise is consisting of 5-6 latest skin care/ cosmetics products in sample size, but sometimes you get 1-2 full size too, like the Elizabeth Arden's ampules I received this month!

So if you like to try out new skin care/ cosmetic products before purchase, then this is the perfect deal for you, but if you are those who use same type of shampoo since 20 years ago till now, then don't bother to subscribe this, because you'll end up with too many sample item in your makeup case.

Anyway, moving to the next topic. Something about stereotyping and men in V neck. Notice how the fabulous surprise box is in stunning pink color, even the ribbons and paper fillers are in pink! By just one look at the box, I think most of the people will think that- this is definitely for ladies, even before checking what's inside. But if you think about it, so what, its just a color! The color has no gender. However, most people like to associate certain colors, design, character, clothing (and the list goes on) to specific gender. Sling bag- lady, gossipy- lady, football- man, muscular- men etc.

Now, Malaysian has its own guideline on gender specific clothing, V neck- gay. Ok, let me not just picking on single point, here's the entire story. On Sept 13, at a parental seminar in Penang, Yayasan Guru Malaysia Bhd and Putrajaya Consultative Council of Parents and Teachers Associations distributed guidelines to help parents and teachers spot lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) tendencies. Quoting from the star online, below are some of the controversial guideline:

1. If you’re muscular, like v-neck or sleeveless tight and light-coloured shirt, like big handbags, you’re gay;

2. If you like to sleep, eat and hang out with women and you’ve no affection for men, you’re a lesbian.

LOL. The first one is funny, the guideline had just gay-fied all my guy friend in the church, because I saw all of them wore light colored shirt (a.k.a pink) before and some even in V neck. But wait, the second point is HILARIOUS. To my dearest kupo friend, probably you girls are all lesbian, because you all are hanging out with the same gender way too much.

As what Malaysian Insider said, it's breathtakingly stupid, and you would have thought that only universe is infinite, apparently human stupidity too.

Its only a means, no biggie

I was in the office 630am yesterday morning. It was eerily quiet as the rest of the world is still sleeping, but I have a task to focus on - to get the work done before my boss step in at 9am. It was a precious 2 and half hours which I really enjoyed. Sometimes I would work in the dark, because the serenity reminds me that I'm all by myself. Have you ever experience the quietness of a place devoid of human presence, when usually its always full of people and their sound of chattering? The stark contrast makes the silent appear to be even more silent. That's when my mind is crystal clear, and my productivity is at its best. If I manage to clear all the task before 830pm, I'll get to sit back and enjoy a cup of hot coffee.

The smell of the aroma in an empty office, that's the way I like it.

Despite of all the crap my boss is giving me, I'm still enjoy my job in a moment like this. Am not saying that I love my job nor I'm a blissfully contented employee. I'm just being practical, if you can't do anything to change it, you might as well enjoy it.

To be totally honest, it used to bug me alot that I don't really like my job, but somewhere along the line I have come to terms with myself that I need not to be totally in love with my job in order for me to do it. Many have touted about loving the job you do or do the job you love, but maybe its really not such a big deal after all. I don't know how many people are aspired to achieve that, but even for an idealist like me I have to admit that loving your job is not as important as what we've been led to believe. Of course there can be one in a millions like Mark Zuckerberg, those minority who are lucky to find the work they love that also support their lifestyle  But for you and me, those who works day in and out to make ends meet, job is just a means, its not your entire life.

I used to look for the perfect job, job which i think I can excel and shines like a star, yet totally passionate about it. But it was a futile effort and I think many would agree with with me. No job will be ever perfect, if you found the job from the right profession, you would crave for the right boss, when you found the right boss, you would crave for right colleagues, then right career advancement, right environment, right pay, and even the coffee the tea lady serve you would have to be right as well.

There is this un named friend and shall remain un named that once said that he had lost his direction in life as he is no longer passionate about his job. But again, does being passionate about the job fulfills our lives? So I did not landed my dream job, but that still didnt stop me from finding enjoyment in my work. I took pride in the output of my work and was genuinely happy when my boss acknowledged the fact that I'm doing my best. And if you ask me why I'm putting effort in something which i didn't love, its because we all need the moolah to make a living, and money is a means for me to do things which are far more important in life, like travelling to places I never been before, buying the book I like, pamper myself occasionally with girls night out. And that defines my life, not my job. Not passionate about my job does not make my life less fulfilling nor make me a lesser person compare to those who passionate about their job.

Anyway, enough of the mental fart, I need to go back to my work before I can enjoy my cup of coffee and talk about fulfilling my life which doesnt involves anything to do with job.

Singapore Trip- Part II Acclimatization

I rarely blog nowadays. Sometimes not even 1 post in a week. I wonder whether the writer's block really exist or its just in my head (translation- It's plain laziness). It's always easy to blame it on something which you can't control rather than admit that you are unwilling to make effort. However, I do realized that words do not come easily to me these days compare to how it used to be. Is it because I have experience less these days? or is it because I have experience too much, so new things no longer excites me easily?

Or maybe its just a natural process, I didn't lived through 29 years of my life for nothing. One of many things life has taught me is the ability to acclimatize and acquaint with new things without being too stir up. Once in a blue moon, I would wonder what else that life can offer to me? And the very same thought scare me to death. It would be such a pitiful state if there is no more expectation in life.

* Chase away the funny thoughts *

Anyway, one of the things which still adds spices in my life is travelling. Peter and I made a promise that we would travel at least once a year, and we are quite lucky to have it twice this year (and another one to look forward to during Christmas). But I am really looking forward to go somewhere far far away next year, nothing concrete yet. I hope I will have enough of moolah by then. ;)

Anyway, back to the Singapore trip. Here comes the part II.

Still on day 1, somewhere near the Fullerton Hotel. We wanted to take a picture with the Singapore icon Merlion, but the big one was closed for some construction, so in the end we only managed to took a picture of a teenage size Merlion.

We went to watch the National day rehearsal near the Fullerton hotel, it was the first time I see the spectacular sight of Marina Bay Sand. My friend told me that some people refer the architecture and design to Noah's Ark (which is stuck on the highest point on the mountain when the water receded), which sounds funny to me. Anyway, there is no denial that it looks magistic especially with the background of full blown fireworks.

We cant resist the temptation to go back to MSB the next day, just to check out the Garden by the Bay and its luxurious shopping mall. Garden by the Bay was exceptionally beautiful, even at night. The funny structure which looks like the living fauna with tentacles came out from the movie Avatar glowing beautifully in the dark. Its looks magical and almost felt like some alien fantasy.

MSB Shopping mall is big and classy, but again shopping mall is just shopping mall. We had a piece of cheesecake at "Beanstro" (the bistro version of the Coffee Bean) beside the Rain Oculus. Its interesting to have a cup of coffee while listening to the torrent of 'rain' swirling down from the roof top.

Lets talk about food, we had MOS burgers at Bugis- Teriyaki and PREMIUM Wagyu burger, very unconventional choice of raw meat, which priced slightly more expensive from the usual fast food, but the patty tasted really tender and the amount of sauce is just right. No overflowing mayonese like McD.

We also went to the Cafe Cartel for some serious pork ribs. However I must say the amount of walking we need to do to get there was crazy, from one shopping mall to another, up and down escalator, in and out of underground etc. In fact both Peter and I had leg cramps that night after walking like thousands of miles in the day. Thinking back, it was so funny that both of us took turns to moan in pain during the sleep because of the cramps. BUT luckily the food didn't disappoint us. It was juicy and smoky, generous in portion with lots of sides. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip.

We also tried the local Cho Bak Mee, some vinegar, soy sauce based dry mee topped with porky goodness like the mince, liver and balls.

After an so-so experience at local dim sum restaurant the day before, we went to a high class restaurant for some serious dim sum upon friend's recommendation. My oh my, they were seriously GOOD. Every pieces came with distinct taste and texture, the plating itself was a work of art.

The food tasted better with great companions!

Lastly, local hawker experience at Newton with a family friends of ours. We had grilled sting ray, satay, fried squid, rojak, chicken wing, all the local favourite, yum yum.

That's all, till my next trip then.
